Day 1: Berlin


Welcome to Berlin! Arriving at the airport collect your rental car make your way to your centrally located Berlin hotel. Check-in and enjoy the remainder of the day to explore this lively city at your leisure. 
Accommodation in Berlin: 3* Leonardo Hotel Berlin Mitte or 4*  NH Berlin Kurfürtendamm (or similar) 

Day 2: Berlin | Wittenberg


Breakfast at your hotel. Today begins with a Berlin Hop-on/Hop-off City Circle tour that will introduce you to the city's main landmarks like Alexander Square, Checkpoint Charlie, Berlin Cathedral, the famous Brandenburger Gate, the German Parliament building and the lovely boulevards. Departing the German capital, a short drive south (approx 40 minutes) will take you to the city of Wittenberg where you can visit the house of Martin Luther that has been transformed into the most important museum of the Reformation, Luther’s tomb in the Schlosskirche church and the St. Mary Church where Luther preached during the 16th century and considered the "Mother Church of Reformation". Overnight in the Wittenberg region. (B)

Day 3: Wittenberg | Torgau | Leipzig


Breakfast at hotel & check-out. Today make your way to Torgau, traveling through the lovely landscape along the Elbe River (approx 1 hour drive). Here we suggest to visit the Hartenfels Palace and its chapel, the first Reformation church consecrated by Luther. You may also visit the grave of Katharina von Bora, Luther’s wife, and pause in front of the building where the main ideas in the articles of Torgau were developed. In the afternoon another short drive (1 hour approx) will take you to Leipzig, the site of the famous debate between Johann Eck and Martin Luther. Discover Leipzig's most important sites during a two hour guided walking tour of the historic center featuring the Augustus square with the opera, the old city hall, the Renaissance buildings & Thomas Church. You'll also see Saint Nicolas church where in 1989 the prayers for peaceful revolution against the communist dictatorship & important movement for German reunification, began. Overnight in Leipzig. Day 4: Leipzig | Eisleben | Erfurt


After breakfast, check-out and drive northwest for about one hour to Eisleben, “the City of Martin Luther” and UNESCO World Heritage Monument. In Eisleben, make sure to visit the house where Luther was born and  died. Other attractions include the church of St. Peter and St. Paul, where he was baptized, as well as the church of St. Andrews, site of Luther's final sermon. In the afternoon proceed southwest and after just one hour arrive in Erfurt, the city where Luther became a monk. Here you'll have the opportunity to visit the Augustine Monastery, Martin Luther’s religious community. Check-into your hotel and overnight in Erfurt. (B)

Day 5: Erfurt | Eisenach | Frankfurt


Following breakfast at your hotel spend some time to explore Erfurt and perhaps visit St. Mary church and Krämerbrücke bridge. Driving west for about 50 minutes, you'll reach the small town of Eisenach, set in the lush, forested hills & farms of central Germany and where you can take a guided tour of the impressive Castle of Wartburg. It was during his exile at Wartburg Castle that Martin Luther translated the New Testament into German. And perhaps visit the Latin school and Bach Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Monument. Finally, make your way to Frankfurt (about 2 hours drive) to return your rental car and begin you journey back home. Or ask about extending your vacation with a stay in Frankfurt or other German destinations. (B)
