A 9-day Independent Rail Tour visiting the capitals of Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic & Hungary. Discover the must-see attractions of cosmopolitan Berlin and the regal cities of Prague, Vienna, and Budapest, all steeped in history, culture, the arts & music!

Day 1: Berlin

Arriving at Berlin Airport, a private car transfer will take you to your centrally located hotel and, after check-in, the remainder of the day is free to spend as you chose. Relax or set and start exploring the city on your own.

Day 2: Berlin

Rich in historical & cultural treasures, Germany's capital Berlin attracts thousands of visitors each year and today you'll discover the city's main monuments and sights with a Berlin Hop-on/Hop-off City Circle tour at your own pace. You can stay on the bus for a full circle orientation tour or hop-on & hop-off at 18 different landmarks all around the city at your leisure, including Alexander Square, Checkpoint Charlie, Berlin Cathedral, famous Brandenburger Gate, the Reichstag, Bellevue Castle, Charlottenburg Palace and the Kurfürstendamm - Berlin's liveliest avenue with numerous shops, restaurants, hotels and the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. Get off at any stop to visit museums, go shopping or stroll through the Jewish quarter and then return to the bus to continue discovering the city. The bus offers headphones in 20 languages. A full circle tour lasts 2 hours 30 minutes and your ticket is valid for 24 hours. (B)

Day 3: Berlin to Prague

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and, at the appropriate time, make your way to the railway station where you will board a train bound for Prague. Upon arrival at Prague central station, transfer independently to your hotel and then enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure to spend as you chose. (B)

Day 4: Prague

Once the capital of the Holy Roman Empire, the Golden City of Prague is a city where history meets you in every path. This morning enjoy a city tour of Prague highlighting the most important attractions and historical sites. Your professional guide will thoroughly acquaint you with Prague, one of the most beautiful cities in Europe with its thousand years old history and architecture. From the comfort of our air-conditioned bus, we will first show you the New Town with the Wenceslas Square, the National Museum, the National Theatre, a panoramic view of Prague Castle and the Lesser Town as well as the Charles Bridge. You will then continue with a visit to Prague Castle and the most dominant feature of Prague - the St. Vitus Cathedral. After visiting the grounds of Prague Castle, we will take you to the dock on the Vltava river where you'll board a tourist boat. Sit back and relax while admiring the beauty and panorama of Prague from a different perspective. From the upper deck, you will also see the famous Charles Bridge. Once the boat journey has finished, we continue with a short walk through the Jewish Quarter to the Old Town Square with the Astronomical Clock and Church of Týn, where today's tour will end. This tour lasts around 3 and a half hours and the remainder of the day is free. (B) 

Day 5: Prague to Vienna

Today you'll travel to Vienna, Austria's charming imperial capital. Following breakfast at your hotel, transfer independently to Prague railway station. Then sit back, relax and enjoy the changing scenery as you travel by high-speed train to your next destination. Once in Vienna, make your own way to your centrally located hotel for check-in. The afternoon is free to spend as you please. (B)  

Day 6: Vienna

Vienna is considered one of the most romantic cities in the world and during today's city tour you'll discover its most important tourist attractions and visit the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace with its beautiful showrooms. Your sightseeing tour begins with a drive along the Ringstrasse boulevard, where you pass many popular tourist attractions. Admire the impressive Vienna State Opera where the famous "Opera Ball" takes place every year, the grand Hofburg Palace former winter residence of the imperial family, the monumental buildings of the Museum of Art History and the Museum of Natural History. Further sights on our tour include the neoclassical Parliament, the acclaimed Burgtheater and the striking City Hall, where the legendary Life Ball takes place. We then proceed to Schönbrunn Palace for a guided tour with skip-the-line tickets included - no need to wait for Austria’s most popular tourist attraction! The former imperial summer residence, Schönbrunn Palace is a listed World Heritage Site and attracts millions of people from all over the world every year. We will visit to the historic state rooms and see how the imperial family once lived. Afterward, you have some free time to take a stroll through the palace gardens or enjoy a cup of original Viennese coffee and a piece of delicious apple strudel, before returning to the city centre. The afternoon is free to relax or continue exploring on your own. (B)

Day 7: Vienna to Budapest

Following breakfast, make your way to the railway station in Vienna to board a high-speed train to Budapest, your final destination on this journey. You'll reach the Hungarian capital in about two and a half hours and once you arrive at Budapest central station, you will find your hotel is only a short distance away. Check into your hotel, settle in, and then perhaps set out again to start discovering this charming city on your own. (B)

Day 8: Budapest

Budapest is one of the most beautiful capitals in Europe with over 1000 years of history on display and today you'll discover the highlights of Hungary’s capital during this half-day guided city tour of Budapest. We start the tour from the Chain Bridge, pass by the Parliament and take the Margaret Bridge to drive over to the Buda side. We stop in the Castle District and during a short walk we show you the main attractions of the area. We walk to Matthias Church and the Fishermen’s Bastion, from where you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view. Next, we drive to the Gellért Hill (Citadel) and show you the most spectacular view of Budapest. We then take you over the Elisabeth Bridge to Pest and show you the famous Central Market Hall and the largest Synagogue of Europe, after which we drive to the City Park. We pass by Europe’s largest thermal spa, the Budapest Zoo and the Amusement Park, then stop at the Heroes’ Square with the statues of the most famous Hungarian kings & dukes. We continue along Andrássy Avenue to downtown Pest, passing by the Opera House and the St Stephen’s Basilica. The tour ends in the city centre after approximately 3 hours and the rest of the day is yours to spend as you please. (B)

Day 9: Budapest

Sadly today marks the end of your Capitals & Imperial Cities Rail Tour. Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and, at a time to suit your departing flight, a private transfer will take you to the airport in time to board your return flight. (B)
