A fantastic day out from Glasgow in the heart of the scenic Western Highlands taking in the superb ruins of Kilchurn Castle, stunningly situated at the head of Loch Awe and the historic village of Inveraray, home to the Duke of Argyll. An afternoon to explore Oban and the dramatic landscapes of Glencoe and Rannoch Moor. Departing from Glasgow at 9:00 am, you travel north into the Highlands, and over the “Rest and be Thankful” pass to the whitewashed 18th-century town of Inveraray, home to the Duke of Argyll’s castle. Following a visit to Inveraray, you continue to the iconic Kilchurn Castle, magnificently situated at the head of Loch Awe and surrounded by towering mountains. After lunch (not included) in the fishing port of Oban, famous as the Gateway to the Isles, you will continue along the stunning west coast through Appin, passing the impregnable Castle Stalker, before making a stop surrounded by the majestic beauty of Glencoe, one of the Scots’ favourite mountain regions. Then it’s onwards to the wild Rannoch Moor and south to Glasgow, stopping at Loch Lomond on the way. Entry fees to attractions are not included. Expect to arrive back in Glasgow at approximately 7:00 pm.
