Wednesday - On arrival at Catania airport, make your way to your centrally located Catania hotel (an optional private airport transfer is available). Late in the afternoon, meet your tour leader and fellow travellers during a welcome DRINK. Free evening to enjoy dinner at leisure and begin discovering the local atmosphere. Overnight.
Thursday - After breakfast, depart for Syracuse, one of the most powerful cities of the ancient Greek world and today a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the impressive Archaeological Park of Neapolis, including The Greek Theatre, The Roman Amphitheatre, The Ear of Dionysius, The Latomia del Paradiso. Continue to Ortigia Island, the enchanting historical centre of Syracuse. It is a maze of elegant Baroque palaces, hidden courtyards, and piazzas facing the sea. Highlights include: The magnificent Cathedral built upon the ancient Temple of Athena, The Fountain of Arethusa, The Temple of Apollo. Enjoy a curated street-food lunch experience, tasting some of Sicily's most beloved local specialties. In the afternoon, free time at disposal in Ortygia. Return to Catania. Evening at leisure. Friday - After breakfast, travel to Mount Etna, Europe's highest and most active volcano. Journey through spectacular volcanic landscapes of black lava fields, vineyards and ancient forests to reach approximately 1,800 metres above sea level. Visit the Silvestri Craters and admire breathtaking views stretching from the volcano to the Ionian coastline. Sunday - After breakfast, depart to Sciacca. Far from mass tourism, this charming fishing town reveals an authentic side of Sicily.
