Day 2 Rome - Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill

Today you can enjoy a leisurely breakfast and some time to explore Rome on your own before an afternoon guided tour of Imperial Rome. The Romans built an empire of truly gigantic proportions. The testimony of its greatness is still visible in the places where the city was built, more than 2772 years ago, by the legendary twin brothers Romulus and Remus. To see it with your own eyes, join us and our professional guide on this 3-hour tour: we’ll provide you with a pocket radio receiver and earphones, and let you access the Colosseum by skipping the long line. You’ll walk inside the Flavian Amphitheater seeing the places where the Ancient Romans used to watch a variety of events, such as gladiatorial shows or staged animal hunts, and you’ll learn more about the way Romans used to enjoy their leisure time. You’ll stroll around Palatine Hill, the place where Rome was founded and where Roman emperors used to live: the view is spectacular from here, so get your camera ready for some perfect shots from above! You’ll also reach the Roman Forum, the pulsating heart of ancient Roman life, to see some very well-preserved ruins of that time: let the tour guide take you back in time and try to imagine what it was like to be a Roman citizen. Unforgettable!  The tour ends inside the Roman Forum and you can decide to remain inside the Forum and then make your own way back to your hotel at your own pace. Day 3 Rome | Naples | Pompeii | Sorrento

After an early morning departure from Rome, you'll see Southern Italy highlights on your minitour from Rome. Your journey begins heading south along the so-called Sun Highway, crossing the fertile Roman countryside and the area known as Castelli Romani, dotted with enchanting medieval villages. Arrive in Naples, one of the largest and well-known cities in Italy for a short panoramic tour climbing up to Vomero hill to enjoy beautiful views of the Gulf of Naples with the Vesuvius, Capri, Ischia and Procida and the city below; time to take some nice pictures. Descending towards the port of Mergellina, you will leave the city and travel south toward Mount Vesuvius, and once you reach the town of Pompeii you will have lunch enjoying some real Neapolitan pizza! After lunch, you will enter the world-famous archaeological site of Pompeii with “Skip the Line” tickets for a guided tour. Visit the haunting ruins of Pompeii, travelling back in time to the tragic days in 79 AD when the silent Mount Vesuvius suddenly erupted, covering the prosperous Roman city in deadly volcanic ashes and poisonous gases, leaving this prosperous city crystallized until our days. You’ll learn how people lived at that time, visiting houses and “bars” of the time, admiring frescoes and mosaics to imagine how rich and prosperous was the city before that fateful day. After the visit, continue along the Sorrentine Coast, arriving in Sorrento in time for dinner (dressy casual attire is required) and an overnight in your hotel. (B.L.D)

Day 4 Sorrento | Capri | Sorrento

Following breakfast, you'll depart by boat to the island of Capri. Depending on weather conditions, you’ll take a boat ride to the popular and dreamy “Grotta Azzurra” (Blue Grotto), where the sunlight passes through an underwater cavity and shines through the seawater, creating a magical blue reflection. You'll then board a minibus for a scenic drive to Anacapri, 918 feet (280 meters) above sea level where you will be amazed by the wonderful views of the Bay of Naples. There will be free time for lunch on your own and to explore Capri at your leisure or go shopping before returning to Marina Grande where you will board the boat back to Sorrento. Dinner tonight will be served at your hotel. (B.D)
